Learn how OpenFactor enabled digitised financial freedom for Rova across...
Cross-border Multicurrency Digital Banking Platform
The Challenge
Enabling digitised financial freedom across geographical borders in multiple currencies can be as complicated as it sounds. Like it was for Rova when it was confronted with the following challenges-
- Understanding the banking and the overall business ecosystem in the geographies of interest (UK and US)
- Navigating the regulatory landscape in both these countries successfully
- Ensuring effective dispute resolutions
- Implementing necessary digitization processes and driving innovation
- Deploying watertight cybersecurity measures
“We wanted to overcome these challenges in the shortest possible time, and be at the top of our game. Our trusted partner, OpenFactor, helped us do so.”
It didn’t help that a sizable number of employees, having recently joined a new organisation like Rova, didn’t fully understand its business, country-specific regulations and their implications, and how banking-related matters work in the UK and US markets.
The OpenFactor Technology Group was selected to help Rova overcome these hurdles because of the former’s expertise in technology solutions, services and consulting. However, the team proactively went beyond its technical mandate (that of enabling necessary digitization initiatives capable of driving innovation, and putting foolproof cybersecurity measures in place) to function also as Rova’s consulting partner and help it navigate these matters.
For instance, OpenFactor crafted requirement documents from scratch in the cold banking domain because the Rova team didn’t have sufficient expertise in that area. Suffice to say that in addition to demonstrating its technological prowess, the OpenFactor team went above and beyond to create a roadmap for Rova to follow. As a result, the latter passed the vulnerability assessments in the UK with flying colours, while complying with the gamut of regulation requirements in the country.
The OpenFactor Edge – Speed | Service | Security
The biggest challenge for any organisation, especially if it’s new, is the cost – particularly where licences are concerned. Equally important are having the ability to provide superlative service and ensuring this service is delivered at speed, while safeguarding (platform) security. The OpenFactor team not only helped Rova achieve these three objectives, but also empowered the latter’s team to independently accomplish these, and other objectives, on an ongoing basis.
A fixed-price project that was originally inked for a duration of three months has eventually expanded to a continuous partnership between OpenFactor and Rova – a collaboration that’s been facilitated by the former’s team having:
- In-depth experience of implementing complex core banking systems across geographies (particularly UK and US)
- End-to-end knowledge of not only the technology aspect, but the business angle also, of how a banking system works
- Exposure to the compliance and regulatory environment across geographies (specifically UK and US)
“There’s been zero instance of any cybercrime since Rova handed over the technology deployment and maintenance mandate to OpenFactor.”
Interestingly, the Rova team was of the opinion that running a core banking project would require nine months to a year, compared to the three months that OpenFactor said it would need. Yet, despite there being regulations that had to be complied with, platform security that had to be absolutely loopholes free, the serviceability and speed that needed to be top notch, OpenFactor achieved its mandate within the specified budget a whole month ahead of schedule – merely two months instead of the originally quoted three!
To quote the Rova team, “Truth be told, not only did OpenFactor complete the work assigned to them within the budget ahead of schedule, they achieved this despite business delays from our end.”
The Results
From saving Rova exponential amounts in licence costs to completing the project much ahead of schedule (within the earmarked budget) to delivering time-related cost savings of 20% to 40%, OpenFactor proved to be a knowledgeable and trustworthy technology and consulting partner for Rova. Not surprisingly, Rova has projects planned till the end of 2025 that it wants OpenFactor to spearhead.
